This is a proposal of how we intend to promote the Apache CloudStack incubating in the Apache Software Foundation at appropriate open source and cloud computing events. It is our intent to conduct these events while adhering to the Apache Third Party Branding Policy, version 1.0

Mission

In the interest of educating users on the benefits of CloudStack, foster developers and share information on open source cloud computing we intend to exhibit, train and evangelize at events appropriate to our community. When we do so we will be doing so as individuals supporting the Apache CloudStack project incubating in the Apache sSoftware Foundation. Citrix will be glad to provide financial support for expo fees, give-ways (t-shirts, stickers, etc.) with the CloudStack logo but will keep strict separation between Apache CloudStack activities and Citrix promotion events.

Primarily these events will be organized and staffed by the pre-Apache community team but all members of the CloudStack community should feel welcome to participate. For the events listed below Citrix is willing to sponsor the event and provide the booth and staffing to support CloudStack.

If you are interested in helping with an event or want to conduct your own event and would like our assistance please let us know by emailing community@cloudstack.org.

Here are examples of pre-Apache CloudStack events we conducted in the past - http://cloudstack.org/about-cloudstack/cloudstack-events/pastevents.html

Goals

  • Provide spark for additional contribution and participation in the Apache CloudStack project incubating in the Apache Foundation so that it can graduate to a bona fide top level project driven by a wide variety
  • Provide support for other community
  • Create templates for other community members to develop, promote and expand on existing programs to drive success of Apache CloudStack.

Types of Events we Intend to Conduct

  • Meet-Ups - Local user groups to talk about using and deploying CloudStack with talks given by Apache CloudStack developers, community members and other complimentary technology partners (e.g. Apache CloudStack, Puppet, Chef, Scalr, Ceph, Gluster, etc.) Here is a list of the current CloudStack meet-up groups - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Local+User+Groups
  • Linux and Open Source Fests - Conduct demos as part of the associated exhibition, submit talks and help organize BoFs. (e.g. SCALE, FOSDEM, OSCON)
  • Cloud Expos - Exhibit and deliver demos as part of the exhibition, submit talks, and participate in panel discussions on CloudStack
  • Online Events - Demos of Apache CloudStack incubating in the Apache Foundation with question and answers sessions attended by CloudStack contributors over GoToMeeting (will look at OpenMeetings but we have access to GTM for free)
  • Build a Cloud Days - Coalition of open source projects that can be combined to deliver infrastructure-as-a-service and are compatible with CloudStack. The events are conducted under community Build a Cloud Day "brand" and then delivered in collaboration with (Citrix typically underwrites the cost of the venue and lunch) examples of past
  • IRC meetings and Q&A sessions - Held online and staffed by knowledgeable CloudStack users to help new users from CloudStack.

Permissions and Approval

Permission needed to conduct events should be obtained first from the PMC. For events organized by a single third party and doesn't fall under

2012 Sponsored CloudStack Events

Below are the list of events we would like to undertake to promote the CloudStack project as it is incubating under the Apache Foundation. We are not seeking any financial assistance for these events.

Expo Booth

We have the following materials to help facilitate the exhibitions. Upon graduation from the Apache CloudStack incubator we will rebrand as appropriate as Apache CloudStack.
