Post Event Report
We were thrilled to receive such an overwhelming response. All our tickets got booked super quickly.
Registrations for the event were done through Eventbrite https://s.apache.org/alc-workshop-solr-event. We used our LinkedIn page and personal LinkedIn accounts for publicity.
The majority of our attendees were college students.
Aditya started with the basic intro about open source and Apache Solr and then we began our show-stopper activity of getting our hands dirty with code with a bit of playing around with how Solr works.
Aditya and our team of volunteers helped the attendees build their first demo application with Apache Solr. We referred to the official tutorial provided on the Apache Solr community for easy access later.
In the session, the attendees were able to :
- install and run solr on their local machine
- build a demo schema
- index demo data
We did run into a couple of problems related to Java versions, so it was an added advantage that they also learned how to install and use dependencies effectively.
We hope it was as good an experience for the attendees as it was for us.
Toward the end, we all enjoyed some delicious snacks (thanks to our sponsors HotWax Systems) and wrapped the event with Apache swags as the cherry on top.
