The following results were compiled from a Survey conducted 19th to 28th August 2025.  To reach a broad audience, I posted to the Mifos slack channels (#general, #fineract) and to the listserv multiple times.  (James Dailey )

Generally the project is seen as positive, with 75% agreeing with "Yes, Positive".  A plurality of the respondents noted that they were on a fork of the project, or not contributing upstream.   This is striking because only those who are monitoring channels and the listserv were responding, a strong bias toward involved participants.  Respondents came from all over the world, highly distributed globally, with a strong showing from the African continent and the Americas.

To questions about security, there was some support for getting fixes but less awareness of the CVE process.  To a question about whether a new Fineract front end  UI (in lieu of the well known Mifos UI) would be used and welcomed, nearly 80% agreed with yes or it would depend on how good it was.

Getting paid and making the project easier to build are two of the highest priorities for devs.  Motivations for being involved included 'commercial reasons' - this tracks with roughly 20% of those paid to work on the project -  but also scoring high were  'Poverty Reduction', 'Technology Challenge', and 'Self-Improvement', and 37% reported being involved for non-monetary reasons.

FEEDBACK SECTION

What's your vision or idea for this project?

Make it easier for non developers to deploy and use to increase adoption

Fineract to be the leading core for Credit union, Microfinance & Payment solution provider.

True modularity, easy extensibility, reusable workflows, developer experience without compromises

Rapid migration and esb/soa integration

Standard for ledger and loan management system

Good documentation

My vision for Fineract is that is intentionally and thoughtfully governed, and that it continues to grow and improve its positive impact to humanity.

Self-hosted on other operating systems other than Linux and Docker

que el sistema sea mas idependiente en codigo

More inclusive community

Could be a great project to help finance institutions improve

Fineract as framework for Financial solutions

Versatile core banking platform suitable for most any FI core system

Better UI

Deliver a world class banking and lending platform that integrates well with other systems to enable better financial services globally.

very good project

My vision is that this project has to be drop in replacement for the important modules, to such an extent that the financial institutions see no alternative than to adapt to Apache Fineract.

Fineract should continue to evolve as a robust financial services platform, focusing on stability, performance, and ease of use for developers and end users.

I would love that fineract grows to compete with commercial banking softwares like finacle.

It could help to reach goals of having a system that helps in the financial requirements of the organization but requires to have the knowledge that sometime is hard to find/develop (it is required specialized skills) in the contributors.

I see Fineract as the Go To Solution for fintech

I don't know

I envision Fineract as the go to solution for the fintech world.

My idea is nice

Focus on features for poverty reduction, commercial use cases should be subordinate

To always be open source. To grow to be a full Core banking system

hard, but im learning a lot

It should develop to a fully fledged, mature core banking software comparable to commercial alternatives like

this app to become the number 1 financial app in the worl

To become a true challenger of the closed source alternatives

General Feedback - Any improvements

too much dependency on Mifos (an external project, I think) to meet certain requirements

Make it easy for others to contribute to the project, some of us are working with very big microfinances, Credit union & payment providers and their feedback on usage and requirement can improve the project.

N/A

Let my team integrate wso2 to fineract!

Rather than MariaDB/MySQL only, either work with other RDBMS, or at least PostgreSQL

no tiene alertas de acciones

Migration process should be improved, it's hard to bring existing portfolio to fineract

Keep doing this kind of things, listening opinions and ideas from different people

Extension Store for APIs which do not break are supported by the OOB version

Improve documentation and Onboarding

none

The team is highly motivated and wants greater progress. I'd say keep the momentum up and spirits high. Hopefully soon a FinTech company is born.

Consider creating better onboarding materials for new contributors.

I think we are on the right track. We just need to have the community (users) more engaged

I don't know

In Fineract 2.0, let's think about implementing co-lending

Anything

Provide a roadmap and a clear focus, streamline code base accordingly

not at the moment, the reviewers help us to understand more things about this

1. Fixed deposits should be decoupled from savings accounts so that the full range of interest bearing, money market products could be created 2. UI should be taken seriously and if possible managed within the project 3. Accounting entries should be recorded with the real accounts making the transactions 4. Balances of Savings accounts and GL accounts should be maintained instead of the current derived versions where a summary of transactions on the account is done every time a balance is requested 5. There should be better documentation with the feature set 6. A comprehensive branch module should be available for use within the system

make it easy to deploy in personal computers
