10 minsDoing another pass of code cleanup?

we have many styles of code...

(disclaimer: these are paraphrased meeting notes, not verbatim quotes)

Eric: Are there volunteers for doing code cleanup?

David: Given that Solr's been there for a while, there might be questionable old stuff.  It would be helpful to have documents to convey what we want vs what we do not want.

Eric: if there is a list, that folks can look and can choose to volunteer.

Discussion around zookeeper SolrJ CloudSolrClient ClusterStateProvider, ZK vs Solr/HTTP.  Most/all users polled on the call are using the ZK mechanism instead of Solr/HTTP.  Intend to improve the latter; there are known bugs/perf issues.

ClusterState – want to make big changes here for Collection-count scalability.  At least we could target just v10/main.

Prometheus Exporter vs directly exporting from SolrMatthew Biscocho & David Smiley Should we support both?  Another approach? We'll see what people think about both options.

Drop Windows support? See Slack thread

Jan Høydahl

Even our Windows users (on call and some we know) don't care about BAT/CMD files – they use WSL or start Solr in a DIY way.  Uwe runs a CI server that runs Solr tests on Windows.  Failures aren't being analyzed?  Nonetheless, there are no tests for our BAT/CMD! (only manual).  Take-away:  we can drop BAT/CMD files.

We (Sease) got some funding so in 3-4 quarter we should be able to go back to AI related Solr improvements
