Einstieg in LDAP. Das Lightweight Directory Access Protocol und seine Einsatzmöglichkeiten (Praktikum)

Abstract

In vielen Unternehmen und Organisationen werden LDAP-fähige Verzeichnisdienste zur zentralen Verwaltung von Benutzern und deren Berechtigungen eingesetzt. Oftmals herrscht jedoch Unklarheit darüber, was sich hinter dem Begriff LDAP verbirgt und was es zu leisten im Stande ist. Dieses Praktikum bietet einen Überblick über Funktionsweise und Möglichkeiten von LDAP, sowie die marktgängigen Produkte (OpenLDAP, Fedora Directory Server, ...). Bestandteil des Praktikums ist außerdem die Konfiguration und Administration eines LDAP Servers am Beispiel des Apache Directory Servers. Praktischer Übungen vermitteln, wie der Zugriff auf einen LDAP-Server mit Java und anderen Sprachen realisiert werden kann und welche Standardmechanismen der Apache HTTP Server und Apache Tomcat für die Authentifizierung von Nutzern gegen einen LDAP Server bieten. Zur Abrundung des Praktikums arbeiten wir heraus, warum LDAP-basierte Verzeichnisse integraler Bestandteil vieler Single Sign-On Lösungen sind.

English title: Getting started with LDAP: The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol and its possible applications (practical training)

Abstract

In many companys and organisations, LDAP-enabled directory services are used for the central management of users and their privileges. However it's often unclear, what LDAP actually is and what capabilities it has. This practical training provides an overview of the functionality and possible applications of LDAP as well as an overview of popular products (OpenLDAP, Fedora Directory Server, ...). Part of the training is also the configuration and administration of an LDAP Server with the Apache Directory Server as example. Exercises demonstrate how an LDAP Server can be accessed by Java and other programming languages and which mechanisms the Apache HTTP Server and Apache Tomcat provide to authenticate users against an LDAP Server. Finally follows an elaboration, why LDAP-based directory are an integral part of many Single Sign-On solutions.
