Write-up

from Sebastian Slutzky

these are my key observations based on various discussions :

  • The Isis project is facing identity issues, the large number of additions to it (such as customised visualisations, business domain add-ons, and other add ons) raises questions of what the essence of the product is. This are great questions, help to keep the goals clear

  • It is clear that the Isis project needs to embrace new backend and front end technologies, but without loosing the focus of that Isis is supposed to bring to the table

  • Reaching out to a bigger audience face similar questions: what part of the business do we benefit the most? My (biased) take on this is that Isis will appeal mostly to an audience with very high technical and business expertise, a rare combination....but targeting a difference audience, albeit wider, will be less fruitful.

  • Isis should return to be a fully non intrusive framework. We should always maintain Isis for the "5 minutes pitch", where we can show how much you do with so little. this 5 minutes pitch should be demoed as a video cast, and would excercise all the defaults, with no annotation and minimal configuration and bootstrapping code. The new viewer should also keep this "pitch" in mind and be convincing and appealing for an app with defaults only.

  • Isis to be renamed to a less controversial name, and one more descriptive too.

I think those are the main points i observed...
hope that helps,
Seb
